Caltrans will begin construction in early 2012 on a high occupancy vehicle (HOV or carpool) lane in each direction from Magnolia Boulevard to Buena Vista Street along the Golden State Freeway (I-5) between Empire Avenue and Burbank Boulevard in Burbank. This project will improve traffic flow, relieve congestion and encourage ride sharing. In addition, there will be upgrades made to the Empire Avenue and Burbank Boulevard interchanges such realigned on- and off-ramps as well as railroad track separations, realignments and relocation. Additional improvements include the realignment of San Fernando Boulevard/Victory Place at Lincoln Street. The project investment is $452 million and construction is expected to be completed in early 2017.
